About:

The Dinosaurs and Fossils school Assembly is a fun, quick peek into the past through an investigation of the methods used by paleontologists. Modern animals are compared with ancient ones to identify similarities and differences. Some facts can be learned and at other times only hypothesizes can be drawn. The purpose of this program is learn how science works, take a glimpse at animals long vanished, like Dinosaurs and see modern animals as instructive for learning about the past. This program does discuss evolution, and cannot be performed in any other way.

Dinosaurs and Fossils can be performed either with live animals or without them, depending on the focus required and whether animals pose an insurance problem for the school. If live animals are a problem the program can be done where no touching of the animals is allowed.

Live animals included in this show include an American Alligator, Snapping Turtle and Monitor Lizard. Fossils included a T rex tooth, a giant shark (Carcharodon Megalodon) tooth, a turtle fossil which closely approxamates a snapping turtle (Manchuochelys,) a small plesisaur ( Keichousaurus) which is similar to a monitor, a coprolite (Dino dung!) and Dinosaur claw. We may have time to look at a Mastodon leg bone and other aquatic fossils as well.
